After watching numerous movies, reading numerous books and commenting on these ; I still do not have the ability to write a movie or book review.
Appreciating art is different for different people, and i agree critics do have a very analytical modus-operandi working when they savour art - dividing whole into parts and synthesizing the parts , criticizing the small element..... This modus operandi i have not developed, and i agree.
when i watch a movie or read a book , what i care is what i am getting from it. It is just , i do things for selfish purpose. For me non-fiction gives me more pleasure then a read of ullysses . It is just, i dont appreciate the motiff, hidden element , analogies ; which critics appreciates .
Movies i watch ,because of the depiction of reality(however fake it is) and the crisis of its character. I really like to be related to the character, to individual and savour his experience, may be i am vicarious , but it do make that moments a transcedental one-loosing touch with oneself. Simillarly , a character driven novel is what i love - fountain head, Atlas shrugged, Zorba the greek ....
After having such a transcedental experience , i did not have words to depict on the work of art. It is just asking a meditator to write about how he feels during meditation. For me , books and movies are spiritual experience.

Please stop lampooning yourself. Stop pretending and come out with the real stuff. You are an acclaimed Ayn Rand hater. Then how is it possible for you to love Fountainhead, my friend? Should I start calling you a 'pseudo'?
Such careless writing: this is your natural style; you tried to put up a good show by writing formally on terrorism once. But the facade has been demolished. Say good morning to reality.
hear..hear...a philistine talking about art!
And then he says he has a certain taste for Oasis...The Killers...Coldplay.
The person who couldn't make a decent term paper on Art and "Stream of Consciousness", the person who couldn't watch Hiroshima, mon amour - he never appreciated its beauty (he castigated it severely saying it's slow, unwatchable et al), is talking about not being able to write a book or a movie review.
Listen. First appreciate that a work of art is much above your liking or disliking. Saying that you don't like Mona Lisa doesn't take away its status as work of art. So, a review can only be written if one rises above the crisis of falling for novelty of the artwork. From a vantage point only can an objective review be written, and not if you have "art is for suckers" written all over your mind.
